9-hole round on 2/3

Writer's picture: KatieKatie

I'm going to try and start a recap of my rounds, when I can, mainly so I can keep track of my progress but maybe it will help one or two of you seeing how I go about playing certain shots and making my way around the course. Just to let you all know upfront, I usually only play 9 holes so the recaps won't be super long.

This round was a late afternoon tee time at a course just down the round from me. There aren't any par 5's on this course so it makes for a quick 9 after work. Just to give you an idea of how I keep track of things, here's a picture of my scorecard (includes fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per hole) as well as a tracker of where tee shots and approach shots ended up for each hole.

Hole 10 - short par 4, 240 yards. 3 hybrid to the left side of the fairway leaving about 70 yards into the green. Chucked a 58 degree leaving a 25 yard chip. Chipped it 12 feet and 2-putter for bogey. 1-over on the round.

This is normally where I get super frustrated, starting with a bogey, but I re-focused my mind to move forward and try to get the dropped shot back.

Hole 11 - par 3, slightly downhill, 152 yards. 7-iron to the back of the green with about 30 feet, downhill, for birdie. I slightly misread that putt but had great speed and made a 2-putt par. Sill 1-over.

Hole 12 - par 4, 325 yards. Slightly pulled my driver into the left rough and left myself 113 to green. PW to 12 feet for birdie. Another 2-putt par (story of the day). Still 1-over.

Hole 13 - short par 3, 124 yards. Choke down 9-iron to the back of the green and another 2-putt par. Again…1-over.

Hole 14 - another short par 4, 254 yards. Driver, just in the right rough, with about a 30 yard chip. Decent chip, but didn't get it high enough to carry the ridge and left myself 18 feet for birdie…another 2-putt par. Remain 1over.

Hole 15 - par 3, 151 yards. 7-iron to the back of the green. This isn't a putt you would really want to hit - 15 feet, really downhill and breaking right to left. I under-read the break and hit it hard and I left myself 6-feet coming back. I over-read the break on that uphill putt and missed. 3-putt bogey. 2-over.

Hole 16 - par 4, 264 yards, into wind. Driver to the right side of the fairway, leaving about 60 yards to green. Decent shot, leaving myself about 16 feet for birdie. 2-putt par. Still 2-over.

Hole 17 - par 3, 165 yards. I thinned a 6-iron and left it about 5 yards from the front of the green. Great chip to about 2 feet and a 1-putt par. 2-over.

Hole 18 - long par 3, 200 yards. 3 hybrid (off the toe) and I ended up in the rough on the right side of the green. I found a slight hole in the grass and had a pretty good clump of grass behind my ball. I did pretty well to get to about 10 feet from the hole but, yet again, over-read the putt and 2-putted for bogey.

The bogey on 18 took me to 3-over on my round and actually brought my handicap down from 10 to 9.9.

Here are the stats from the round:

Fairways hit: 2/4

Greens in regulation: 6/9

Total putts: 18

Overall - I'm pretty happy with that round but definitely need to work on my putting, especially from 10-15 feet. I gave myself way too many birdie putts to not make one.

My mantra for 2025 is progress not perfection. I definitely had a better mindset this round.

Until next round. Fairways and greens y'all.
