I haven't been feeling well for the last week so this recap is a little late, but here we go -
After 16 years Team Singh - Vijay and his son Qass - have finally been crowned PNC Champions! After back-to-back rounds of 59, they took home the title after a heck of an approach shot by Qass on a par 5, as well as, I hate to say it, a bit of a lackluster performance by Justin Thomas and his dad, Mike.
The honorary hero of this tournament, to me, was Will McGee, Annika Sorenstam's son. The youngest to every play in the PNC Championship, Will just stepped up to every shot and had a blast. Seeing him out there, having the time of his life, was something to watch. You could just tell that he was loving every minute of it. Watching Annika raise his arm up as they walked up the 18th fairway, definitely brought a tear to my eye. A proud mom enjoying a moment with her son is what the world needs right now.
There was also another team that a few people were watching over the weekend - Tiger and Charlie Woods. You know who they are, right? For starters, Charlie rolled his left ankle in preparation for this tournament and you could tell. We all know that Tiger wasn't 100% (still recovering from plantar fasciitis), but he looked better than he did at The Match.
Team Woods opened up with a 59, but couldn't get it going on Sunday, shooting 65 (7 under), finishing 6 back of Team Singh. Seeing Charlie just bombing driver down the fairway was a sight to see. He also hit some really good putts, but you could tell, his ankle was just really bothering him. It was tough to see him on the first day, just not able to shift his weight to his left foot during his swing.
Tiger had Tiger moments - chipping in for eagle on a par 5, chip shots into the green, spinning back to 2 feet from the hole. It just gives a lot of hope for 2023 and seeing what a healthier Tiger Woods can do.
We probably won't see him until Augusta in April, but I'm anxious to see how he does with the hills and the walking. Maybe another major in his future? Only time will tell.
