Going back to the Tour Championship - Scottie Scheffler had a 6 shot lead going in to the final round and lost to Rory McIlroy. I think it was only the 7th time that large of a lead had been lost. Now we add another.
This year at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Collin Morikawa - who was on fire the first 3 round - had a 6 shot lead going in to the final round and the way he was playing, there was no way he could lose. Except he didn't play like he had been playing. He didn't start off bad and didn't really play a bad round, but as he said himself, he had 3 bad shots.
And let's be real - Jon Rahm played like the former number one player in the world, shooting 10-under par in the final round to take home the trophy. One thing that stands out about Rahm, the last two years at the Sentry TOC he has shot 60-under par. Last year, he shot 33-under and lost to Cam Smith. What a couple of years for Rahm.
As for Morikawa, he was the class act that you would expect. He spoke to the media and didn't shy away from answering all the questions about his "collapse." I wouldn't say I necessarily cheered for Morikawa before, but he definitely one me over with the way he handled himself in the press conference.
I'm sure we'll see Collin in the winner's circle sometime this year and I know I'll be rooting for him.
Next week - the Sony Open. Talk to you all soon!
